Potential savings for Missouri

The state of Missouri could save over $1 billion per year were the state to adopt a single payer solution, according to this study done by Ken Thorpe PhD of Emory University. The study was commissioned by the non-profit Missouri Foundation for Health in 2003, so today's numbers would doubtless be significantly higher. At a time when states are struggling to preserve precious services of education, transportation, and others, a state-based single payer solution would make economic, clinical, and moral sense.
